In Lapland (in the North of Finland) 100,000 reindeer graze among the fields. Over the centuries, this semi-domesticated deer has learned to survive in rugged Northern conditions. Reindeer are essentially bred because of the value of their meat. In this sense, their hides are genuine byproducts of the meat industry in Lapland. Due to the small amount of reindeer the supply of hides is very limited.
Reindeer hides are a natural and comfortable product. They are incredibly soft to the touch and aesthetically beautiful, making them ideal for a variety of indoor and outdoor purposes. Reindeer hides should preferably be used for decoration as they are ideally not to be stepped or sat on. The hairs of a reindeer hide are hollow, which makes them susceptible to breaking off when sitting on. Also be sure not to expose a reindeer hide to direct heat, as that can lead to hairs falling out.
Our reindeer hides come in beautiful natural colours
. Each hide is unique, no two look the same. Most reindeer hides have variants of brown shades, often with a lighter spot towards the top. In some variants grey shades can be found that make for some beautiful contrasts
with the brown colour.
