Single Sheepskin | New Zealand | Long Wool | Light Honey
Light honey is one of the newer colours in which our New Zealand long wool sheepskins can be found. It is part of the pastel colours that also include candy, mint, and summer sky and is relatively close to the linen colour variant, but is more yellow in colour. As can be seen on the picture, the colour nicely compliments a dark chair, as it creates a nice contrast with darker colours. But it can also be used in combination with light colours, even white, or natural brown wood, as the light yellow colour mixes wonderfully with natural tones. It can also be combined with sheepskin products in other colours, especially natural tones and strong colours, as it balances more bold colours.
All New Zealand sheepskin products have premium quality. Premium quality is relatively rare compared to standard quality for several reasons. Since all sheep are held for local meat production and their sheepskin only is a byproduct of said production, sheep are not specifically bred for premium sheepskin. All sheep roam the fields freely and are looked after by experienced farmers. Their sheepskins are sorted by quality and only about 10% of all New Zealand sheepskins have premium quality. The main difference between premium and standard quality is that premium quality sheepskin have an extra thick coat, a beautiful natural shine and are more durable.
Premium quality also means that the sheepskin rug is easy to maintain. To maintain the fluffy appearance the sheepskin should be shaken regularly and hoovered on a low setting every once in a while. You can also brush the sheepskin with a sheepskin brush to smooth out the wool. Small stains and spills can be removed with a damp cloth and some warm water, while dry stains usually can be brushed out with a sheepskin brush. New Zealand long wool sheepskin can even be machine washed, however, we only recommend this as a last option. The leather hardens when the sheepskin is machine washed and the wool becomes matted. The leather can be softened a bit by stretching the sheepskin into shape while it dries and the matted wool can be brushed, but the sheepskin won't look the same as before washing. Instead, we recommend using lukewarm water, a clean cloth and some very mild wool wash to remove the stain by hand washing. If you are unsure about anything, please get in touch. We are always happy to assist you!
